Nigerian Woman Killed by METRO Bus in Downtown Houston.

Last weekend, a Nigerian woman named Damilola Matuluko lost her life after being hit by a METRO bus in downtown Houston, United States.

Damilola, an employee of the City of Houston, was on her way to work when the incident occurred. According to investigators, the collision took place around 7:40 am near the intersection of Rusk and Smith.

Damilola was reportedly in the crosswalk and had the right of way when the bus, turning onto Rusk as the light changed to green, struck her.

The contract driver of the bus is said to be cooperating with authorities. Although two passengers were on board at the time, no additional injuries were reported.

Damilola Matuluko had been working with the City of Houston’s HR Operations Employee Relations team since 2023. Her colleagues described her as a beloved and impactful team member, expressing deep sorrow over her untimely death.

The Houston HR Director, Jane Cheeks, offered condolences and acknowledged Damilola’s significant contributions to the department.

The METRO Police Department, along with the district attorney’s office, is conducting a thorough investigation to determine if any charges will be filed in connection with the incident.
