Nigeria, Bahrain Strengthen Diplomatic Ties with New Agreement.

Nigeria and Bahrain have taken a significant step toward deepening their diplomatic and economic ties as both nations officially established diplomatic relations through the signing of a Joint Communiqué.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, met with his Bahraini counterpart, Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, in Manama, where they engaged in high-level discussions aimed at fostering stronger bilateral relations.

According to a statement issued by Alkasim Abdulkadir, Special Assistant on Media and Communications Strategy to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the meeting focused on attracting foreign direct investment from Bahrain, expanding trade and investment opportunities, and enhancing cooperation in the oil and gas sector. Particular emphasis was placed on onshore projects and the development of Nigeria’s 8th Train Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) initiative.

“This development aligns with Bahrain’s ongoing efforts to strengthen international partnerships,” Abdulkadir stated. He also noted that Dr. Al Zayani recently chaired the third meeting of the National Committee for Monitoring the Implementation of the Outcomes of the Bahrain Summit Initiatives, reinforcing Bahrain’s commitment to global collaboration.

Abdulkadir said the meeting focused on strengthening diplomatic relations, facilitating foreign direct investment from Bahrain, enhancing trade and investment opportunities, and fostering cooperation in the oil and gas sectors, with particular emphasis on onshore projects and the development of the 8th train LNG.

According to him, the ministers also deliberated on the training of Nigerian diplomats and collaboration within multilateral forums.

He said both ministers signed a Joint Communiqué, officially establishing diplomatic relations between the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Kingdom of Bahrain. This agreement marks a significant milestone in fostering closer ties and mutual cooperation between the two nations.

“This development aligns with Bahrain’s ongoing efforts to strengthen international partnerships. Recently, Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani chaired the third meeting of the national committee for monitoring the implementation of the outcomes of the Bahrain Summit Initiatives, underscoring the kingdom’s commitment to global collaboration”, he added.
