The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, has called on Nigerians to embrace the spirit of sacrifice, unity, and national renewal as Muslims around the world mark Eid al-Adha.
In a statement signed by his Special Assistant on Media and Communications Strategy, Alkasim Abdulkadir, the minister congratulated the Muslim Ummah and all Nigerians, describing the festival as a moment of deep spiritual reflection and renewed faith in the Almighty.
“Eid al-Adha is a time of profound significance,” the minister said. “It urges us to emulate the virtues of obedience, resilience, and selflessness as exemplified by Prophet Ibrahim (AS), and reinforced through the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (SAW). These values are essential not only to our personal lives but also to building a peaceful and just society.”
Ambassador Tuggar used the occasion to call for prayers for peace and stability across the globe, particularly in conflict-ridden regions such as Gaza, Sudan, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, where innocent civilians continue to suffer from violence and unrest.
On the domestic front, the minister expressed solidarity with internally displaced persons (IDPs) across Nigeria and prayed for the restoration of their dignity and wellbeing. He also extended heartfelt condolences to the people of Mokwa in Niger State, where recent floods on May 28 resulted in the loss of lives and destruction of property.
He urged Nigerians to support humanitarian efforts and stand united with affected families during this period of recovery.
Highlighting the sacrifices of Nigeria’s security forces, Tuggar praised frontline officers for their courage and dedication in protecting the nation, describing their service as a source of inspiration.
The minister also reaffirmed his commitment to promoting Nigeria’s global interests through principled and proactive diplomacy.
“As we mark this sacred festival, let us draw strength from its message and recommit ourselves to shared humanity, unity of purpose, and national renewal,” he said.
