Diplomatic and security heavyweights are set to gather in Abuja on July 24 for the inaugural International Diplomatic and Security Conference, organized by the Diplomatic Correspondents’ Association of Nigeria (DICAN) in partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The European Union Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Ambassador Gautier Mignot, will headline the high-level event, which aims to explore the complex nexus of diplomacy, national security, and disinformation in a rapidly changing global environment.

Scheduled to be held at the Rotunda Hall of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the conference will feature a wide array of speakers including Nigeria’s National Security Adviser (NSA), the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), and the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS).

Themed: “Nigeria’s 4Ds Foreign Policy Strategy Amidst Global Security Challenges, Strategic Misperceptions, and the Age of Disinformation: The Role of Diplomacy, Intelligence, and Media in Shaping National and Global Stability,”
the conference will critically assess President Bola Tinubu’s 4Ds foreign policy agenda—Democracy, Development, Diaspora, and Demography—and its relevance in confronting new-age security threats.

Foreign Affairs Minister, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, who also serves as DICAN’s Grand Patron, is expected to deliver the keynote address. Academic insights will be provided by Professor Sheriff Ghali Ibrahim of the University of Abuja, who will serve as lead discussant.

The event is expected to draw a broad spectrum of participants including former Nigerian presidents, serving governors, ministers, lawmakers, ambassadors, civil society leaders, and members of the diplomatic corps.

DICAN described the conference as a timely intervention that will foster collaboration among key stakeholders in diplomacy, intelligence, and the media to produce actionable recommendations for regional and global stability.
