ECOWAS, Netherlands Join Forces To Strengthen Peace In The Sahel Region.

The Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS,Commission Abuja, through its Department of Political Affairs, Peace and Security, (PAPS), has met with a delegation from the Kingdom of the Netherlands towards the strengthening of peace building collaboration, and strategic partnership in aid of greater integration of the region.

According to a statement from the ECOWAS Commission on Friday, the Kingdom’s Special Envoy for the Sahel and Head of Division West Africa, Ambassador Robert Zimmerman, led the delegation’s courtesy visit, among others, aimed to engender the strengthening of peace, building collaboration and strategic partnership in aid of greater integration of the region.

In an opening remark, Ambassador Zimmerman highlighted three core areas of cooperation interest to include Security and Stability, Migration, as well as, Economic Cooperation and Trade.

Zimmerman said, the ECOWAS Commission can count on the Support of the Netherlands on cross border cooperation, adding that his country is looking forward to discussing the future of ECOWAS in relation to the Alliance of Sahel States (AES).
