Ghana Hosts Second Session of The Ghana-Austria Political Consultations.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Ghana hosted the Second Session of the Ghana-Austria Political Consultations on Thursday, 26th February 2026. The meeting brought together senior officials from both countries to review bilateral cooperation, exchange views on regional and global developments and explore ways to strengthen engagement across multiple sectors.

The Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, Honourable James Gyakye Quayson in his remarks indicated Ghana’s commitment to deepening ties with Austria and highlighted support towards the development of Ghana through infrastructure projects such as highways and water systems.

He also welcomed the opening of the Austrian Cultural Forum in Accra as a hub for artistic, academic, and intercultural exchange and expressed confidence that the consultations would further consolidate frameworks for cooperation while providing a platform to discuss broader regional and global issues.

The State Secretary of the Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs of Austria, His Excellency Josef Franz Schellhorn affirmed the commitment of Austria for practical, technical, and institutional cooperation. He noted contributions made by Austria to United Nations peacekeeping efforts and collaboration with Ghanaian security institutions.

He highlighted opportunities for economic cooperation in renewable energy, infrastructure, waste management, and green technologies. His Excellency Schellhorn mentioned the role of cultural initiatives in fostering mutual understanding and long-term partnerships.

On this part, Ambassador Harold Adlai Agyeman, Acting Coordinating Director for Political and Economic described the session as a milestone in the over six-decade relations between Ghana and Austria, rooted in mutual respect and shared aspirations. Ambassador Agyeman emphasised that the consultations provide a structured platform for reviewing cooperation and aligning positions on bilateral and global issues.

Deliberations were held on political relations, economic and trade ties, investment as well as other areas including tourism, security, labour mobility and health.

Both sides acknowledged the constructive dialogue held and reaffirmed their commitment to further enhance the relations.
