Nigeria, China Pledge Stronger Bilateral Ties To Enhance Cultural, Tech, Agricultural Cooperation.

Nigeria and China have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations through cultural exchange, scientific innovation, technology transfer and agricultural cooperation.
Both countries made the commitment on Saturday, 8th August, 2026 at the “Seasonal Life & Harmonious China” Cultural Exhibition, held at the China Cultural Center as part of activities marking the 2026 China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges.
Speaking at the exhibition, the Cultural Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria, Yang Jianxing, said Nigeria and China, despite their geographical distance, share long histories, rich cultural traditions and values of openness and inclusiveness.
He noted that cultural exchange remains a critical bridge for promoting mutual understanding and friendship between the peoples of both countries.
“The “Seasonal Life & Harmonious China” cultural Exhibition held today centers on the theme of “seasonal life”, a concept rooted in fine traditional Chinese culture. Through a variety of engaging activities, including displays of the “Twenty-Four Solar Terms” culture, tastings of traditional delicacies, experiences with Intangible Cultural Heritage crafts, and interactive exchanges.
“We invite you to explore the Chinese way of life and experience the cultural philosophy of “living in harmony with nature, coexisting in harmony, and sharing a beautiful life.”
The Twenty-Four Solar Terms represent not only the crystallisation of wisdom gained by ancient Chinese people through long-term observation of nature but also an element of Intangible Cultural Heritage recognized by UNESCO.
“They reflect a philosophy of living in harmony with nature and embody values that emphasize respecting nature, cherishing resources, and pursuing a harmonious and beautiful life. This philosophy resonates deeply with the Nigerian spirit which cherishes nature, respects tradition, and values family and community forming a vital foundation for the exchange, mutual learning, and appreciation between Chinese and Nigerian civilisations, he said.
According to him, culture thrives on exchange, and civilisation is enriched through mutual learning.
The Deputy Manager of the China International Press and Media Company Limited, Guan Hong, said the year 2026 marks the fifty fifth anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Nigeria, and that regardless of how the international landscape has evolved, the partnership between China and Nigeria in the culture and people-to-people exchanges has become ever more precious.
The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology, Dr Mukhtar Muhammed, said the Ministry will seek stronger collaboration with Chinese institutions in areas of post-harvest loss reduction, agro-processing, sustainable agriculture and scientific research.
noting that the relationship between both countries has gone beyond trade to include agriculture, science, technology and innovation.
“The “Seasonal Life Harmonious China” theme reminds us that sustainability requires patience and foresight. Just as the farmer tends to his land through the seasons, we must tend to the Nigeria-China relationship with care, strategic planning, and mutual respect.
“The Federal Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology is committed to ensuring that this new season of trade openness is matched by a new season of scientific enlightenment and technological advancement.
“I thank the Government of the People’s Republic of China for its continued partnership and assure you of our unwavering commitment to turning these opportunities into tangible benefits for the Nigerian people.

The exhibition showcased aspects of traditional Chinese culture through displays on the Twenty-Four Solar Terms, traditional foods and medicines, Intangible Cultural Heritage crafts and interactive cultural activities.
