Denmark Opens Visa Applications for Skilled Professionals Amidst Labour Shortage.
By Caroline Ameh
In response to an escalating labour shortage, Denmark has introduced a visa program welcoming welders, bricklayers, mechanics, teachers, and various professional workers, the Danish Agency for International Recruitment and Integration (SIRI) confirmed.
The initiative, effective since January 1, 2024, aims to recruit 72 highly educated individuals and 38 highly skilled workers to fill diverse roles across the country. SIRI updated the Positive Lists for graduates and skilled workers to facilitate the visa application process.
Beyond skilled workers, Denmark has identified several key areas demanding workforce influx, encompassing scientists, engineers, medical professionals, nurses, educators, economists, IT specialists, architects, pharmacists, accountants, insurance agents, sales consultants, managers, customs officers, real estate agents, and medical secretaries.
The nation is actively seeking professionals like landscape gardeners, precision mechanics, electricians, and cabinetmakers to bolster their workforce.
Denmark’s recent amendments to immigration laws include reducing the minimum salary requirement and expanding the work permit fast-track scheme, signaling a deliberate effort to attract global talent.
These changes reflect the country’s commitment to addressing its labor deficit by inviting skilled individuals from various sectors to contribute to its thriving economy.
