Dua Lipa Denounces “Israeli Genocide” in Instagram Post.

By Caroline Ameh

Pop sensation Dua Lipa has taken a firm stance against the ongoing military operations in Gaza, labeling them as “Israeli genocide” in a recent Instagram post addressed to her 88 million followers.

Sharing a graphic from the group Artists4Ceasefire, accompanied by the trending hashtag #AllEyesOnRafah, Lipa called for solidarity with Gaza following the Israeli attack on the Palestinian city. She stated, “Burning children alive can never be justified. The whole world is mobilising to stop the Israeli genocide. Please show your solidarity with Gaza.”

This is not the first time Lipa has spoken out in support of Palestinian rights, but her latest comments mark her strongest condemnation yet of Israel’s actions in the conflict.

In a previous statement in December, Lipa expressed sorrow for the lives lost on both sides of the conflict, urging for empathy and a ceasefire in Gaza. She reiterated her concerns in January, emphasizing the humanitarian crisis unfolding in Gaza and the need for world leaders to address it.

Lipa’s vocal support for Palestinian rights has not gone unnoticed. In 2020, she reposted an Instagram post critical of the Israeli Defense Forces and advocating for Palestinian independence. However, her activism has also attracted criticism, notably from the Jewish group The World Values Network, which accused her of antisemitism alongside models Gigi and Bella Hadid.

In response to these accusations, Lipa firmly rejected them, stating her stance is rooted in defending Palestinian human rights against actions condemned by organizations like Human Rights Watch and B’Tselem.

Beyond her advocacy for Palestine, Lipa has also been outspoken on other political issues. She criticized UK politicians for their language surrounding immigration, particularly in response to remarks about Albanians made by Suella Braverman in 2023.

While comments on the Israel-Palestine conflict are relatively rare in the pop world, Lipa joins other British stars like Stormzy in using her platform to speak out against perceived injustices. Stormzy, for instance, has openly expressed support for Palestine and performed benefit concerts for Gaza and Sudan.

The singer’s latest statement adds to the ongoing conversation surrounding the conflict in the Middle East, highlighting the intersection of pop culture and global politics.
