ECOWAS, Mauritania Join Forces To Harmonise, Improve Statistics in West And Central Africa.

The ECOWAS Commission has perfected a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, with the Islamic Republic of Mauritania to strengthen the harmonisation, and improvement of statistics in West and Central Africa.
In a statement today, the ECOWAS Commission said the agreement was finalised in Nouakchott on 14 November 2025, with the signing ceremony scheduled to take place at a date to be announced.

According to the statement, under the World Bank–funded HISWACA project, the MoU will support Mauritania’s participation in regional statistical harmonisation efforts, and provide technical assistance, capacity building, and opportunities for knowledge sharing with ECOWAS member States.
Meanwhile, while in Nouakchott, the Commissioner for Economic Affairs and Agriculture, Dr. Kalilou Sylla,
held meetings with Mauritanian authorities and key development partners, including ANSADE, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Development, FAO, the European Union, EU, Delegation, and the World Bank, to advance cooperation ahead of the upcoming MoU signing ceremony.
