European Union, ECOWAS Meet To Strengthen Peace and Security.

The President of the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS, Commission, Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, has met with the Head of the European Union (EU), Delegation to ECOWAS, Ambassador Gautier Mignot, as well as EU Heads of Mission to ECOWAS, to strengthen their collaboration, promote regional integration, democracy, peace and security.

The meeting which held on Thursday, at the ECOWAS Commission Headquarters Abuja, also focused on the future prospects of ECOWAS in the context of its 50th anniversary, and the Summit of the Future, among other things.

The President of the ECOWAS Commission, Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, welcomed the EU Head of Delegation, and Heads of Mission to the ECOWAS Commission, and thanked the EU for its continued cooperation, and support to ECOWAS.

Dr Touray also underscored the need to preserve the unity of ECOWAS, and strengthen the collaboration between ECOWAS and the European Union based on equitable partnership.

In his remarks, the Head of the European Union Delegation to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Ambassador Gautier Mignot, reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with ECOWAS, and highlighted the importance of ECOWAS as strategic partner.
