Foreign Affairs Minister, Tuggar Receives AU Commissioner, Adeoye.

The Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, received in audience, Ambassador Bankole Adeoye, African Union Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security, on Thursday 3rd, April 2025.

Ambassador Bankole Adeoye is a seasoned Nigerian diplomat with over three and a half decades of experience in foreign policy and diplomatic practice. Born on September 9, 1959, in Lagos, Nigeria, he hails from Ogun State.

Adeoye’s educational background is impressive, with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and History from Obafemi Awolowo University (1982), a Master of Science in Political Science from the University of Lagos (1987), and a Postgraduate Certificate in Diplomatic Studies from the University of Oxford (1991).

Ambassador Adeoye has held several key positions, including:

  • Permanent Representative of Nigeria to the AU and UNECA: He led Nigeria’s mission in Addis Ababa, participating in AU processes and fostering bilateral cooperation with Ethiopia and Djibouti.
  • Ambassador to Ethiopia and Djibouti: He served in this role from 2017 to 2020.
  • Chief of Staff to the CEO and Director of Corporate Services at the NEPAD Planning and Coordinating Agency: 2007 to 2015.
  • Director in the International Organizations Department, Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs: He oversaw Nigeria’s multilateral engagements within the UN system from 2015 to 2017.
