By Caroline Ameh

In response to allegations of sexual harassment leveled against him by Mrs. Simisola O. Fajemirokun-Ajayi, an aide to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Adamu Ibrahim Lamuwa has vehemently denied any wrongdoing.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs refuted claims of making sexual advances towards Mrs. Fajemirokun-Ajayi, attributing the accusations to professional disagreements over financial accountability and due process within the Ministry.

According to a statement released on Wednesday by sources close to Ambassador Lamuwa’s legal representative, he categorically denied making any suggestive comments or innuendos towards Mrs. Fajemirokun-Ajayi, emphasizing that their interactions were strictly professional.

The statement clarified that their conversations, including remarks made during a Ministry retreat and discussions about work processes in Hong Kong, were misinterpreted by Mrs. Fajemirokun-Ajayi.

Ambassador Lamuwa’s legal representative highlighted specific instances mentioned in the allegations, such as an alleged invitation to his room during a retreat, which he denied ever occurring.

The statement further asserted that casual remarks made by Ambassador Lamuwa were innocuous and made in jest, refuting claims of any improper conduct.

Moreover, the statement addressed broader issues concerning financial matters and access to sensitive documents raised in Mrs. Fajemirokun-Ajayi’s allegations. It argued that her requests were not in line with civil service rules and processes, suggesting a lack of familiarity with governmental protocols.

Ambassador Lamuwa, who has served in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for over three decades without prior complaints of harassment, expressed confidence in being vindicated.

His legal representative underscored his client’s commitment to upholding professional standards and ethical conduct throughout his career.

The allegations, which include claims of abuse of office and intimidation, were reportedly submitted in a petition by Mrs. Fajemirokun-Ajayi through her legal representatives.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has not issued an official statement regarding the matter, pending further investigation into the allegations.

As the investigation progresses, both sides await further developments to clarify the contentious issues surrounding the allegations.
