France Orders Apple To Remove iPhone 12 From Market Over Radiation Concern.
By Caroline Ameh
In a recent development, the French regulatory authority has taken a firm stance against Apple by demanding the removal of the three-year-old iPhone 12 from the French market due to concerns over electromagnetic radiation levels exceeding permissible limits.
The French telecommunications regulation agency, ANFR, issued an order calling for the immediate cessation of iPhone 12 sales across all distribution channels in France. This decision follows ANFR’s comprehensive testing of 141 different phone models in a laboratory, with a primary focus on assessing the amount of electromagnetic radiation absorbed by the human body during phone operation.
The results were alarming, as it was discovered that the iPhone 12 exceeded the allowable radiation limit for direct body contact, such as holding the phone or carrying it in a pocket. Instead of the permitted maximum of four watts per kilogram, the iPhone 12 recorded a significantly higher level of 5.74 watts per kilogram.
In response to these findings, authorities are now urging Apple to investigate and potentially release an update to address this radiation concern. It’s important to note that the iPhone 12 did meet the limit of two watts per kilogram for radiation values at a distance of five millimeters from the body. This compliance applies to situations where the phone is carried in a jacket or pocket.
This development raises questions about the safety of smartphone radiation levels and the measures companies like Apple must take to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
