German Defence Minister Begins Indo-Pacific Tour in Hawaii.
German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius has arrived in the US state of Hawaii to kick off a multi-day trip to the Indo-Pacific region.
Pistorius and his delegation landed in Honolulu, where the German navy is participating in the US-led naval Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) military exercise.
In 2020, the German Cabinet established guidelines for the country’s policy in the Indo-Pacific, highlighting its central importance for the global and German economy and outlining associated risks.
Germany aims to enhance its collaboration with political partners in the region, particularly due to concerns from smaller states about China’s dominance.
The RIMPAC exercise, which takes place every two years under US leadership, involves 29 nations, including France and Britain, as well as some 40 ships, planes and helicopters.
Germany is participating for the first time with a frigate and an operations group supply ship.
