German Interior Minister Calls On Muslim Associations To Denounce Hamas Violence.

By Caroline Ameh

German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser has urged Muslim associations in Germany to unequivocally disassociate themselves from the violence perpetrated by the Islamist Palestinian organization Hamas against Israel. Speaking in Frankfurt, Faeser stressed the importance of a clear and timely condemnation of Hamas’ terrorist activities.

Following a major attack by Hamas fighters on Israel on October 7, the German government took action by prohibiting all activities associated with the group. To show solidarity and underscore the significance of safeguarding Jewish institutions, Minister Faeser visited a Jewish day-care center and primary school in Frankfurt during her visit.

Faeser expressed her deep concern, stating, “I am deeply ashamed that we have a situation in Germany where we still have to police day-care centers and primary schools.” Salomon Korn, the community’s chairman, highlighted the fear and unease among community members, particularly children. In response to Hamas’s call for violence against Jewish institutions worldwide, Korn mentioned that 80 percent of children did not attend the community’s day-care centers and schools on Friday.

The leaders emphasized the need for unity within society, especially with Muslim Germans, to strengthen cohesion. Josef Schuster, the president of the Central Council of Jews in Germany, added that heightened protection measures for Jewish communities should be maintained permanently to ensure their safety.

This call from the German Interior Minister reflects the government’s commitment to addressing and preventing acts of terrorism on its soil, and it highlights the importance of promoting interfaith and intercultural harmony in the country.
