Google Cuts 200 Employees From ‘Core’ Teams …shifts Roles to India and Mexico.

Tech giant Google has announced a significant restructuring, resulting in the layoff of approximately 200 employees from its ‘Core’ teams.

The company aims to streamline operations and reduce costs by moving some roles to India and Mexico.

In an email addressed to employees, Asim Husain, Vice President of Google Developer Ecosystem, disclosed that this action marks the largest planned reduction for his team this year.

“We intend to maintain our current global footprint while also expanding in high-growth global workforce locations so that we can operate closer to our partners and developer communities,” the email stated.

Google’s Core unit is responsible for building the technical foundation for its flagship products and ensuring user safety online. It also manages the company’s global IT infrastructure and offers internal tools and developer solutions.

According to filings, at least 50 of the eliminated positions were in engineering at Google’s offices in Sunnyvale, California. Internal documents reviewed by CNBC reveal that many Core teams will be hiring corresponding roles in Mexico and India, aligning with the company’s strategy to tap into high-growth markets while optimizing operational efficiency.
