International Women’s Day: ECOWAS Canvasses For Women’s Rights In West Africa.

The 2025 International Women’s Day, IWD, had many countries swung into action to champion the cause of women, as well as celebrate the resilience, and determination of women to make positive change on their communities.
Joining the celebration, the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS, Gender Development Cebtte (EGDC) celebrated this year’s International Women’s Day in Dakar, Sénégal which coincides with the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration, and Platform for Action, as well as the 50th anniversary of ECOWAS.
According to a statement by the ECOWAS Commission on Monday, the celebration offers an opportunity to discuss the situation of women in West Africa, particularly in the area of respect for their rights to equality and justice.

Meanwhile, alongside the various events planned in the Community, the CCDG organised a formal ceremony for the signing of a Partnership Agreement between ECOWAS, and the Ministry for the Family and Solidarity of the Republic of Senegal, concerning support from ECOWAS for the setting up of a production unit for reusable sanitary towels in Senegal.
