Liberia Election Results: George Weah and Joseph Boakai Set For Run-off.

By Caroline Ameh

Liberia is once again poised for a decisive presidential run-off as the race between incumbent President George Weah of the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) and former Vice-President Joseph Boakai of the Unity Party (UP) remains neck to neck. The upcoming run-off election marks the second face-off between these prominent political rivals in the span of six years.

The National Electoral Commission (NEC) has reported that with 99.6% of the results from the October 10th election processed, none of the 20 candidates vying for the presidency met the requirements for an outright victory.

As a result, Liberians will head to the polls once more in early November to determine the nation’s next leader. The run-off contest will feature the two perennial frontrunners, with President George Weah securing 43.79% of the vote in the initial round, closely trailed by former Vice-President Joseph Boakai, who garnered 43.49%.

The upcoming run-off is expected to be a closely watched and hotly contested event, as these two political heavyweights vie for the country’s top office. Stay tuned for more updates as the nation anticipates this critical decision on its leadership.
