Nigeria, Egypt Elevate Ties to Comprehensive Partnership…waive Visas for Diplomats.

Nigeria and Egypt have officially elevated their diplomatic relations to a “Comprehensive Partnership,” reinforcing mutual respect for sovereignty, territorial integrity, and unity. The decision was reached during the third round of political consultations between Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, and his Egyptian counterpart, Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, in Cairo.
The Nigerian delegation also included the Minister of Water Resources, Prof. Joseph Terlumun Utsev, and the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari.
As part of the new partnership, both countries have agreed to intensify coordination on regional and international issues, particularly strengthening the African Union’s role in addressing continental challenges and fostering regional integration. They also pledged to collaborate on advancing democracy, good governance, and the African Union’s Agenda 2063.
Recognizing shared security threats such as terrorism and extremism, Nigeria and Egypt will enhance cooperation on counter-terrorism strategies, exchange expertise, and support conflict resolution efforts across Africa through peacebuilding and sustainable development initiatives.
In the economic sphere, both nations aim to boost governmental and private-sector engagement in key sectors, including agriculture, energy, telecommunications, and infrastructure. Additionally, discussions are underway to establish a Nigeria-Egypt Chamber of Commerce by the end of 2025, with an official launch set for the fourth round of ministerial consultations in Abuja in 2026.
Further strengthening bilateral ties, the two nations have agreed on visa exemptions for diplomatic passport holders and adjustments to visa fees for citizens, facilitating smoother travel and fostering deeper people-to-people connections.
The next session of the Joint Ministerial Committee is scheduled for the last quarter of 2025, signaling the commitment of both nations to advancing strategic cooperation.
