Nigeria Mourns Former Zambian President Edgar Lungu.

The Federal Government of Nigeria has extended heartfelt condolences to the Republic of Zambia following the death of its former President, Edgar Lungu, who passed away on Thursday at the age of 68.
Nigeria’s message of sympathy was conveyed in a statement issued on Saturday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and signed by its Spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa, on behalf of the Minister, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar.
The late President Lungu was commended for his dedicated service to Zambia during his tenure from 2015 to 2021. Tuggar highlighted Lungu’s legacy in promoting infrastructure development, fostering national unity, and advancing regional diplomacy.
“His leadership saw to the appointment of Zambia’s first female vice president and introduced initiatives aimed at promoting inclusivity, national cohesion, and economic diversification,” the statement noted.
Nigeria also recognised Lungu’s role in elevating Africa’s voice in international affairs and his unwavering commitment to regional cooperation.
“We stand in solidarity with the Lungu family, the Patriotic Front, and the people of Zambia during this time of national mourning,” the statement read. “Nigeria joins the international community in celebrating his life and service. May his gentle soul rest in peace.”
President Edgar Lungu led Zambia under the banner of the Patriotic Front party and was known for his advocacy of the motto “One Zambia, One Nation.”
