Nigeria Mourns Namibia’s Former President Sam Nujoma.

The Federal Government of Nigeria has extended its deepest condolences to the government and people of the Republic of Namibia, the Nujoma family, and the entire Southern African region over the passing of His Excellency, Dr. Sam Nujoma, the founding President of Namibia and a revered figure in Africa’s liberation struggle.

In a statement released on Sunday and signed by Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, Acting Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nigeria expressed solidarity with Namibia, acknowledging Dr. Nujoma’s pivotal role in securing the country’s independence from apartheid South Africa in 1990.

Dr. Nujoma, who served as Namibia’s first president for 15 years, reportedly passed away peacefully on Saturday night in the capital, Windhoek. A renowned Pan-Africanist and visionary leader, he dedicated his life to the emancipation of Namibia from colonial rule, advocating for justice, equality, and self-determination. His contributions not only shaped Namibia’s destiny but also inspired generations of Africans in their struggles against oppression and injustice.

As Namibia’s pioneer leader, Dr. Nujoma established the foundations of democracy, reconciliation, and development, setting the country on a path of peace and progress. His leadership earned him the admiration of both his people and the international community.

Nigeria, recognizing Dr. Nujoma as a steadfast ally and friend, shares in Namibia’s grief during this period of mourning. His legacy as a statesman and freedom fighter remains a beacon of inspiration across the continent.

“In this moment of profound loss, Nigeria stands in solidarity with the people of Namibia and reaffirms our commitment to strengthening the bonds of friendship and partnership between our two nations,” the statement read.
