Nigerian Government Appeals For Peace Amid Escalating Israel-Hamas Conflict.

By Caroline Ameh

The Nigerian Government has issued a strong appeal for peace in light of the renewed hostilities between Israel and Hamas. The call for de-escalation comes as both sides engage in fresh clashes, which commenced on Saturday, 7th October, 2023, threatening the safety of civilians in the region.

In a  statement personally signed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, the Nigerian government expressed deep concern over the mounting violence and emphasized the urgent need for a ceasefire.

The statement outlined the profound consequences of the ongoing conflict, stating that the incessant cycle of violence and retaliation only exacerbates the suffering of innocent civilians, who invariably bear the brunt of such confrontations.

Consequently, the Federal Government of Nigeria has called upon both Israel and Hamas to exercise restraint and prioritize the safety of civilian populations, stressing the paramount importance of humanitarian considerations. The government has urged both parties to seek a peaceful resolution to the conflict through dialogue.

This diplomatic move by the Nigerian government aligns with international efforts to bring an end to the conflict and alleviate the suffering of those affected by the hostilities.
