The Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a public warning against a fraudulent Facebook account impersonating its Permanent Secretary, Ambassador Dunoma Ahmed.
In a statement released on Friday in Abuja, the Ministry’s Spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa, alerted the public of the activities of impostors using social media to spread misinformation and scam unsuspecting citizens.
“This fraudulent account is being used to spread false information, promise contracts, solicit help, and offer enticing rewards,” Ebienfa stated. “The Ministry firmly disassociates itself from this impersonation and urges the public to disregard any messages from the fake account, which is not an official communication channel.”
He clarified that Ambassador Ahmed does not operate or maintain any social media accounts and cautioned the public against engaging with individuals behind such deceptive schemes.
According to Ebienfa, efforts are already underway in collaboration with security agencies and Meta, the parent company of Facebook, to track and disable the fake account.
Ebienfa reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to transparency, integrity, and the protection of citizens from fraud and misinformation on digital platforms.
