Supreme Court Verdict: Pro-PDP Advocacy Group On The Way Forward.

By Caroline Ameh

The Coalition of Democratic Leaders (CDL), a frontline Pro-PDP advocacy group, has charged the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to step into the arena and concretely deal with the crisis brewing in Rivers State in the overall interest of Nigeria’s democracy teetering towards a one party state.

According to a Statement signed by the group’s National Director of Media and Publicity, Hon. Fa’ud Muhammed, and made available to Diplomatic Digest online on Friday, “the Supreme Court judgment has far-reaching implications for the stability of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the political landscape of Rivers State. The ongoing crisis between the factions led by Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor, former Governor Nyesom Wike, has not only deepened divisions within the party but has also jeopardized governance in the state.”

The CDL insists that PDP must act immediately to prevent further political and electoral losses, as prolonged infighting will only serve to weaken the party ahead of the 2027 elections.

“The CDL strongly urges the PDP to immediately initiate a structured and result-oriented reconciliation process, led by H.E. Olagunsoye Oyinlola, under the supervision of the Acting National Chairman and the BOT Chairman. The party must rise above internal squabbles and focus on serving the people of Rivers State, ensuring that governance is not paralyzed by political rivalries”.

Muhammed stated further,
“The PDP cannot afford to remain fragmented. The CDL calls on all warring factions to set aside their differences and work together as one united family. Our collective mission must be to deliver good governance, rebuild public trust, and position PDP as the party of the people once again.

The group warns against any drift towards a one-party dictatorship, which threatens democratic governance in Nigeria. A vibrant and competitive opposition is essential, and PDP must reposition itself as a formidable force against political dominance that undermines democratic principles.

“The Coalition of Democratic Leaders firmly believes that the survival and resurgence of the PDP hinge on bold leadership, strategic decision-making, and a genuine commitment to party unity. The PDP leadership must act now. The fate of millions of Nigerians who still believe in the PDP lies in the decisions made today. It is time to choose progress over division, strength over weakness, and victory over defeat”. Muhammed added.
