Swedish Minister of Migration Maria Stenergard welcomed North Macedonia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Timco Mucunski to Stockholm on Monday, 12th May, 2025 in apparent support of Sweden for North Macedonia’s reform efforts and path towards the European Union.

According to Stenergard on her verified X handle, “The EU’s enlargement has contributed to stability and prosperity across Europe, and Sweden supports EU reforms in all candidate countries. I am delighted to welcome Timco Mucunski to Stockholm for discussions on the security and prosperity of Europe. Sweden strongly supports North Macedonia’s EU accession process and encourages continued reforms”.

Sweden’s presence in North Macedonia dates back to 1993, starting with a consulate that was later upgraded to an Office for Cooperation in 2000, and eventually to a full-fledged embassy in 2005.

Sweden provides development assistance to North Macedonia, focusing on areas such as Development Cooperation, Human Rights and Democracy, Environment and Climate Change.

The development cooperation is guided by a strategy valid from 2021 to 2027, implemented by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida).
