Swiss Ambassador to Ghana, Giger Pays Courtesy Call On Ghanaian Foreign Minister, Ablakwa.

Ambassador of Switzerland to Ghana, H.E. Simone Giger, paid a courtesy call on the Ghanaian Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa (MP), on Friday, 21st March, 2025.

During the meeting, Ambassador Giger expressed her delight to serve in Ghana, and acknowledged the strong relations between Switzerland and Ghana which dates back almost 200 years.

She indicated that the two countries had a lot of similarities, such as, in democracy, unity in diversity and neutrality against the non-aligned policy of both countries. This, she said fostered both countries to work together on the implementation of a bilateral climate protection project under the Paris Agreement.

She indicated that trade between Switzerland and Ghana was growing, this she said made Switzerland the largest trading partner of Ghana in 2024. She further stated that they were ready to support Ghana in its democratic growth.

Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa in his response recalled the longstanding relations between Ghana and Switzerland, referencing the 9th Political Consultation between the two countries that took place in early March.

He acknowledged the Bilateral Climates Agreement that has resulted in 13 climate change projects with the Environmental Protection Agency. He assured that he would work with his counterpart to deepen relations at the highest level.

Ambassador Simone Giger is the Swiss Ambassador to Ghana, Benin, and Togo, based in Accra. Prior to her current role, she served as the head of the Global Program Migration and Development at the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) in Bern.

As Ambassador, Simone Giger has been actively engaged in promoting cooperation between Switzerland and Ghana. She has met with various Ghanaian officials, including the Mayor of Accra and the Minister for Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development.
