Teenager Arrested After Brutally Assaulting Kenyan Policeman.

By Caroline Ameh

Kenyan authorities on Monday apprehended a 19-year-old motorist captured on video viciously assaulting a traffic policeman in the capital city of Nairobi.

The assault took place after the officer, identified as Patrick Ogendo, attempted to intervene when the motorist made a U-turn on a busy road, obstructing other motorists.

Ogendo entered the vehicle and directed the motorist to drive to a nearby police station. However, en route, the situation escalated dramatically when the motorist suddenly produced a sword from beneath the seat.

Fearing for his safety, Officer Ogendo exited the vehicle, but the assailant pursued him, unleashing a barrage of blows and kicks. The assailant also reportedly stole a police pocket phone battery before fleeing the scene. Officer Ogendo received initial medical attention at a nearby health center before being transferred to a hospital for further treatment.

An alleged accomplice of the assailant was apprehended at the scene, and a police team was deployed to search for the primary perpetrator. The attack has been met with widespread condemnation, with many prominent figures expressing outrage and calling for justice.

Robert Alai, a member of Nairobi’s county assembly, decried the assault, questioning how such a violent attack on a uniformed police officer could occur. Former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko echoed these sentiments, labeling the incident as “totally unacceptable” and emphasizing the need to prevent such humiliation of law enforcement officials.

Following an intense manhunt, the suspect was apprehended at his residence in the capital later that Sunday evening. Nairobi’s head of traffic, Vitalis Otieno, confirmed that the suspect would face multiple charges, including attempted murder, signaling a swift response by authorities to bring the assailant to justice.
