Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, will lead the country’s delegation to the 3rd African Union-European Union (AU-EU) Ministerial Meeting scheduled to take place from May 19 to 21, 2025, in Brussels, Kingdom of Belgium.
According to a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja by Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the AU-EU partnership has evolved over a long period, with its institutional foundations dating back to the first summit held in Cairo, Egypt, in 2000.
Since that inaugural meeting, five additional summits have been convened, producing significant decisions aimed at shaping and strengthening the relationship between both continents.
Ahead of the Ministerial session, preparatory meetings will be held, beginning with the African Group of Ambassadors on May 19, followed by a gathering of Senior Officials on May 20.
Ambassador Tuggar is expected to make a key intervention on the topic of Peace, Security and Governance during the plenary session of the ministerial meeting.
