UN Announces Global Call for Nominations for Senior Leadership Positions.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Nigeria has announced that the United Nations (UN) has issued a global call for nominations for key senior leadership positions.

These positions include Special Representatives of the Secretary-General (SRSGs), Deputy Special Representatives of the Secretary-General (DSRSGs), and Special Envoys, who will be tasked with leading field missions around the world.

The call, which aims to identify leaders capable of addressing current and future challenges in peace and conflict resolution, also emphasizes the importance of promoting gender parity and geographical balance.
This announcement was contained in a statement signed by Ambassador Eche Abu-Obe, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on Wednesday, 3rd July 2024.

Nomination Guidelines:

Curriculum Vitae: Applicants are required to submit a concise CV, including biodata and contact details.
Endorsement Letter: A letter of endorsement must accompany the application.
Vision Statement: Candidates must include a vision statement outlining their goals and strategies.
Referees: Details of referees should be provided.
Online Submission: Organizations can endorse candidates by submitting nominations online.

Experience Requirements:
– Minimum of 20 years of relevant professional experience.
– At least 5 years in senior and representational roles in conflict, post-conflict situations, peacekeeping operations, special political missions, and negotiations at national and international levels.

Knowledge Requirements:
– Familiarity with the UN system and peace operations.
– Knowledge of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Language Requirements:

– Fluency in oral and written English is mandatory.
– Fluency in another UN working language, particularly Arabic or French, is advantageous.

Skills:
– Strong communication and advocacy skills.
– Ability to engage with traditional media, civil society, and digital/social media platforms.
