Former US First Lady Rosalynn Carter Passes Away at 96.

Former first lady of the United States, Rosalynn Carter, passed away at the age of 96, as confirmed by a statement from the Carter Center. Her death, disclosed by the Center, was a result of her battle with dementia and a decline in health over several months.

The statement released by the Carter Center expressed that Rosalynn Carter passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, at her home in Plains, Georgia, at 2:10 p.m. on Sunday. Her husband, former President Jimmy Carter, shared poignant words about their partnership, emphasizing her unwavering support and guidance throughout his endeavors.

“Rosalynn was my equal partner in everything I ever accomplished,” said former President Carter. “She gave me wise guidance and encouragement when I needed it. As long as Rosalynn was in the world, I always knew somebody loved and supported me.”

Rosalynn Carter had recently entered hospice care after being diagnosed with dementia in May. Her husband, Jimmy Carter, had begun home hospice care in February following a series of hospital stays.

President Joe Biden extended his condolences, praising the Carters for bringing grace to the office. He remarked on their integrity and shared that he had spoken with the family, learning that Jimmy Carter was surrounded by his children and grandchildren.

The White House also released a joint statement from President Biden and first lady Jill Biden, highlighting Rosalynn Carter’s contributions. They lauded her as a champion for equal rights, mental health advocacy, and support for caregivers, acknowledging her impact on the nation.

Rosalynn Carter’s legacy as an advocate for various causes, including women’s rights and mental health, remains a significant part of her enduring influence on American society.
