Congo Government Swiftly Denies Coup Rumors Amid President’s UN Visit.

By Caroline Ameh

The Congolese Government has dispelled any notion of a coup attempt against President Denis Nguesso.

Thierry Moungalla, the nation’s Minister of Information, addressed the situation through a tweet on the X platform (formerly known as Twitter) on a Sunday.

Earlier that day, amid President Nguesso’s absence at the 78th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, United States, certain social media accounts and news outlets had stirred rumors of a coup attempt unfolding within the country.

Although these initial reports remained uncertain about the identities of those involved in the alleged coup, they hinted at the possible involvement of the commander of the presidential guard in the purported takeover.

Moungalla, in stark contrast, categorically dismissed these reports as baseless and unsubstantiated.
