The Director-General of the Nigerian Technical Aid Corps (NTAC), Rt. Hon. Yusuf Buba Yakub, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his unwavering support of the agency’s mandate. Speaking on Monday in Abuja during the deployment of Technical Aid Corps volunteers to Seychelles and Sierra Leone, Buba celebrated the president’s dedication to fostering South-South cooperation and strengthening Nigeria’s role in global development efforts.

Highlighting the scheme’s impact over the past 37 years, Buba revealed that Nigeria has deployed over 10,000 professional volunteers to more than 40 countries across Africa, the Caribbean, and the Pacific. These volunteers have consistently demonstrated competence, humility, and excellence, earning the admiration of host countries and institutions.

The Director-General urged the new batch of volunteers to embody the spirit of selflessness and adaptability that defines the program. “I understand that some of you may own big homes in Nigeria, but please make do with whatever you are offered in your place of service. You must commit to making this country and our dear President proud on this national call to duty,” he said.

Buba assured the volunteers of the agency’s commitment to their welfare, emphasizing the responsibilities outlined in the tripartite agreements signed between the volunteers, the NTAC, and their host countries. He encouraged them to address any challenges through Nigeria’s diplomatic missions in their assigned nations.

Amb. Zakari Usman, the Director of Programmes at NTAC, also addressed the volunteers, urging them to uphold the scheme’s legacy by showcasing professionalism and the highest standards of character.

One of the volunteers, Mr. Salmanu Mamman-Shatta, expressed gratitude on behalf of the group, pledging their commitment to making Nigeria proud during their 24-month service.

The event was graced by several dignitaries, including the Director of Administration at NTAC, Amb. Yakubu Abdullahi Ahmed; Deputy Director (Admin.), Amb. Saidu Muhammed; Deputy Director (Accounts), Mrs. Meimunat Haruna Mustapha; and Special Assistant to the DG on Media Matters, Mr. Abdulkadir Iliyasu.

The Nigerian Technical Aid Corps program, initiated in 1987, remains a cornerstone of the country’s commitment to development cooperation, fostering unity and mutual progress among nations.
