Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, has met with the Russian Federation’s Minister of Defence, Mr. Andrey Belousov, in Moscow on Wednesday as part of efforts to deepen military cooperation between the two countries.
The courtesy visit, which took place at the Russian Ministry of Defence headquarters, coincided with Russia’s Victory Day celebrations, commemorating the sacrifices of fallen soldiers during World War II.
According to a statement signed by Defence spokesperson Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, the visit underscored Nigeria’s solidarity with Russia and its continued interest in strengthening defence ties.
General Musa used the occasion to reaffirm Nigeria’s commitment to expanding military collaboration, while also highlighting key operational needs of the Nigerian Armed Forces that could benefit from Russian support.
In his response, Minister Belousov thanked the Nigerian delegation for the visit and assured of Russia’s willingness to enhance military assistance. He emphasized the significance of ongoing bilateral engagements, including the Intergovernmental Working Group, as a platform for advancing cooperation between both nations’ armed forces.
The visit is seen as a continuation of Nigeria’s strategy to diversify its defence partnerships and explore strategic support from global powers.
