Tanzanian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Kakele Meets Ambassador Johnson on Diaspora Engagement.

The African Diaspora Collective Chamber of Commerce and Industry (TADC-CCI) has continued to gain momentum as it expands its network of influence and opportunities into East Africa.
H.E. Selestine Gervas Kakele, the High Commissioner of Tanzania to Nigeria, met with H.E. Ambassador Davisha L. Johnson, the Goodwill Ambassador to the State of Georgia, USA, and the African Diaspora Collective’s African Embassy Ambassador. Their discussion centered on unlocking Tanzanians 3rd Category of Diaspora Engagement, focusing on descendants of Africans who seek to return, invest, and build sustainable futures in the motherland—specifically in Tanzania and Zanzibar.
At the Food and Beverage West Africa EXPO, held in Lagos Nigeria, the two Diplomats had a meeting that marked the beginning of a promising collaboration to engage the Historically Unique Group (HUG) of the African Diaspora—descendants of formerly enslaved Africans, officially recognized by the African Union as the 6th Region. With a renewed spirit of connection and empowerment, this group is actively seeking pathways back to Africa—not just symbolically, but economically and physically—through business development, investment opportunities, tourism, and permanent return.
This conversation is timely, especially in view of Ghana’s landmark decision to grant citizenship to 524 Diaspora returnees in November, many of whom have now obtained ECOWAS passports, interest in expanding roots across the continent is surging. The allure of Tanzania and Zanzibar—with their vibrant culture, rich natural beauty, and growing economic sectors—is increasingly capturing the imagination of returnees seeking stability, purpose, and partnership.
Ambassador Johnson expressed her intent to follow up by officially visiting H.E. Kakele at his Abuja office in the coming months. The goal is to establish a formal working relationship between the Tanzanian government and the HUG Diaspora community, laying a foundation for a new era of collaboration that bridges continents and generations.
