US House of Reps To Impeach President Biden.

By Caroline Ameh

The House of Representatives in the United States made a historic move by launching a formal impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden’s alleged involvement in his family’s business dealings, setting the stage for intense proceedings leading up to the 2024 election.

Speaker of the House, Kevin McCarthy, declared that the House Oversight Committee’s ongoing investigation had unearthed what he termed a “culture of corruption” surrounding the Biden family. Republicans were intensively scrutinizing the business activities of Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, that predated the president’s tenure.

McCarthy stated, “These allegations point to potential abuse of power, obstruction, and corruption, and as such, we believe they require further scrutiny by the House of Representatives. Therefore, I am officially directing our House committee to initiate a formal impeachment inquiry against President Joe Biden.”

This announcement unfolded amidst growing pressure on McCarthy from the right wing of his party to take action against Biden, all while facing challenges in passing critical legislation to avert a potential government shutdown by month’s end.

In response to these developments, the Biden White House dismissed the impeachment push as purely politically motivated. White House spokesman Ian Sams commented, “Speaker McCarthy should not yield to the demands of the extreme, far-right faction, which threatens a government shutdown unless an unfounded, evidence-lacking impeachment of President Biden is pursued. The stakes for the American people are too high.”

The House Republicans were conducting an investigation into Hunter Biden’s business activities but had yet to produce concrete evidence directly implicating him and the president. They had revealed a few instances, primarily during Joe Biden’s tenure as Vice President under Barack Obama, where he had communicated with his son or attended dinners hosted by Hunter Biden with business associates.

Rep. James Comer, the Republican chairman overseeing the Oversight Committee, was delving deeper into the Biden family’s financial matters. He was expected to request access to Hunter Biden’s banking records as the panel sought to trace the flow of money.

On a related note, Comer had recently demanded that the State Department provide documents related to Joe Biden’s efforts as Vice President during the Obama administration to combat corruption in Ukraine. This request was in a bid to gain insights into the State Department’s position regarding former Ukrainian prosecutor Viktor Shokin, whom Biden and many Western allies had sought to remove from office due to corruption allegations.

The White House maintained that Joe Biden was not involved in his son’s business affairs. Meanwhile, Democrats on the Oversight Committee were gearing up to counter what they viewed as baseless accusations against Biden in the run-up to the 2024 election as the president pursued his reelection bid.
