ECOWAS President Calls For Stronger Regional Solidarity To Build Resilient West Africa.

The President of the ECOWAS Commission, Birame Diop, has called for renewed regional solidarity, stronger international partnerships and accelerated integration as West Africa confronts mounting security, economic and geopolitical challenges.
Speaking in Abuja at a high-level engagement with Ambassadors, Heads of Diplomatic Missions, Development Partners and representatives of International Organisations, Mr Diop emphasised that regional integration had become an imperative for the future of the West African region.
He expressed profound appreciation to ECOWAS’ diplomatic and development partners for their longstanding support over the organisation’s fifty-year history, noting that their partnership had contributed significantly to progress in peace and security, democratic governance, regional integration, infrastructure development, humanitarian assistance and institutional strengthening.
According to him, ECOWAS is assuming its new chapter against the backdrop of profound global uncertainty, marked by geopolitical tensions, economic fragmentation, climate-related shocks and disruptions to global supply chains.
The engagement with the diplomatic community comes as ECOWAS enters a new phase of its institutional development, with the Commission seeking to strengthen the effectiveness and impact of regional cooperation.
The engagement which brought together members of the diplomatic community and development partners alongside the new Management of the ECOWAS Commission, provided an opportunity to reaffirm the importance of sustained international cooperation in advancing the Community’s regional integration agenda.
He added that regional integration is not merely an option, but it is a strategic necessity and the most effective pathway towards building a prosperous, resilient and inclusive West Africa.
