ECOWAS, Spain Deepen Cooperation Towards Regional Integration, Development.

The Vice President of the ECOWAS Commission, Madam Damtien L. Tchintchibidja, has received a high-level Spanish delegation at the ECOWAS Headquarters in Abuja on Thursday, 27th November, 2025 to strengthen bilateral cooperation.

Madam Tchintchibidja, also reaffirmed commitments to sustainable development in West Africa.
The delegation was led by the Spanish Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, H.E. Félix Costales Arieda, alongside Ms. Ximena Satori of AECID.

Discussions focused on expanding joint initiatives built on Spain’s longstanding support to ECOWAS, particularly in governance, institutional development, and regional integration.

Vice President Tchintchibidja expressed appreciation for Spain’s continued partnership, noting its €1.067 million contribution under the Institutional Support to ECOWAS (ISE) programme, which has strengthened institutional capacities, and enhanced programme delivery.

Both parties therefore reiterated their commitment to deepening cooperation across economic transformation, peace and security, institutional efficiency, and diplomatic relations.

The meeting underscored ECOWAS’ dedication to advancing regional integration while fostering productive partnerships with key international allies like Spain.
