The Embassy of German in Nigeria says Germany remains steadfast in its commitment to supporting Nigeria in strengthening the development and implementation of its climate commitments.
Speaking in Abuja on Thursday at the launch of Nigeria’s Net Zero Investment Plan by federal government through the National Council on Climate Change, the Head of Cooperation, German Embassy, Dr Karin Jansen, said Germany and Nigeria share a longstanding partnership built on climate action, sustainable development, and the energy transition, noting that climate and energy, including a just and inclusive transition, are central pillars of the bilateral cooperation of both countries.
According to her, through this partnership, Germany aims to support Nigeria in strengthening policy frameworks, mobilising investment, and building the capacities needed for a secure, affordable, and climate-compatible energy system.
“Germany is pleased that this process could be supported under the (Nationally Determined Contributions) NDC Partnership’s Global Call for NDCs 3.0 and Nigeria’s Long-Term Low Emissions Development Strategy (LT-LEDS), the country’s comprehensive national roadmap toward achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
“Through GIZ, with funding from the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Climate Action, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety through the International Climate Initiative (IKI), Germany was proud to contribute to this process.
“This investment plan is, above all, a Nigerian initiative, one that reflects Nigeria’s own priorities and its determination to advance climate action in alignment with national development objectives.
“We particularly commend the inclusive and highly consultative process that has characterised the development of the NZIP bringing together government institutions, technical experts, development partners, civil society, and private sector actors across multiple sectors.

She said the launch of the NZIP presents a valuable opportunity to deepen this cooperation further and can serve as a reference point for dialogue among government, development partners, and the private sector on translating climate priorities into concrete support and investment.
“Through instruments such as KfW-supported green finance approaches, we seek to improve access to financing and foster greater private sector participation. These efforts reflect Germany’s broader commitment to enabling practical, people-centred solutions that benefit businesses, communities, and the wider economy”, she said
She said Germany looks forward to continued engagement with Nigerian partners on how best to support the next phase of implementation, adding that the NZIP also sends a strong signal to investors that Nigeria is committed to creating an enabling environment for sustainable and climate-compatible investments across key sectors of the economy.
On his part, the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Abubakar Bagudu, said Nigeria is committed to green transition and sustainable development through Private Sector-Led Initiatives.
He noted that their agenda is to tackle issues that have limited investor confidence in Nigeria’s economy, adding that the federal government in its capacity is committed to support its partners like GIZ,
